Flat Top Hill Conservation Area
Walk or mountain bike around Flat Top Hill Conservation area, where native species grow in the driest of conditions. The area includes historical evidence of European and Chinese settlement. The Flat Top Hill Conservation Area consists of 813 ha purchased by DOC in 1992. Situated behind Butchers Dam, it encompasses the northern end of Flat Top Hill running north to south, bounded by Lake Roxburgh in the east and Butchers Creek and State Highway 8 in the west. Flat Top Hill is a miniature block mountain, at the foot of the Old Man Range (Kopuwai).
Its a well kept secret but New Zealand is one of the best off road driving destinations in the world and certainly one of the most easily accessible. If you prefer four wheel driving and the back country, New Zealand has a range of off road driving opportunities which will amaze you. Imagine the clear fresh mountain air of the South Island high country, ever changing and stunning views, crystal clear mountain streams and off road tracks you don’t have to share with anyone else except possibly some livestock and the occasional stockman.
Black Ridge Vineyard
Famous for being one of the world’s southernmost vineyards and wineries, Black Ridge is also one of the first vine growers in the Central Otago region, planted in 1981.We are a small boutique vineyard and winery set amongst the rugged thyme covered schist outcrops and hills of Conroys Gully, near Alexandra.
We have 9 hectares of vines, distributed in our unique rocky landscape. Some of them are almost 40 years old, resulting in wines with distinctive terroir based character.We specialise in Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Breidecker.Our tasting room is open Monday – Friday from 11am till 5pm, Saturday and Sunday from 12pm till 5pm.

The Orchard Garden is a large country garden, licensed cafe and function centre situated between Alexandra and Clyde. There is signposted access for walkers and mountain bikes directly from the Central Otago Rail Trail with vehicle access from Dunstan Road.
